Coverage Choices

When you get health insurance quotes on our site, you will have a variety of coverage options from which to choose. Here are three of the most popular types of plans our insurers offer.

Indemnity Plans

One plan we offer health insurance quotes on is an indemnity plan. An indemnity plan repays you for your medical expenses no matter who provides the services. In some cases, however, your reimbursement amount may be limited. Indemnity plans are the most basic and traditional type of health insurance. Most indemnity plans on which we offer health insurance quotes have 80/20 reimbursement schedules, meaning your insurer will cover 80% of your expenses, and you are responsible for the other 20%. Indemnity plans offer the most flexibility of all healthcare plans and usually have fairly reasonable health insurance quotes associated with them. However, out-of-pocket costs are typically higher with this type of plan.

PPO Plans

PPO plans, or preferred provider organizations, refer to managed care organizations of doctors, hospitals, and other healthcare providers who have contracted with an insurer to provide healthcare at lower rates to the insurer's clients. PPO plans usually allow you to see any healthcare provider you wish, but they provide strong financial incentives to stay within the PPO network of healthcare providers. For example, you may pay higher co-pays or co-insurance rates for out-of-network care. Another benefit of a PPO plan is that you typically do not have to get a referral to see a specialist. You might consider health insurance quotes on PPO plans if flexibility and choice in your healthcare decisions are very important to you. Health insurance quotes on PPO plans will usually fall in between those for indemnity plans and HMO plans.

HMO Plans

An HMO, or health maintenance organization, is a type of managed care organization that contracts with certain hospitals, doctors, and other healthcare providers to deliver care to their clients. With an HMO, you can only receive care within the HMO's network of providers. For in-network care, you will be reimbursed fully or only have to pay a small co-pay. Out-of-network care is usually not covered. If you get health insurance quotes on an HMO plan, keep in mind that your healthcare provider options will be limited, and you will need a referral to see a specialist. An HMO plan usually offers the lowest health insurance quotes but the least amount of flexibility.
